Home Improvements and Structural Alterations (HISA) Program
The Home Improvements and Structural Alterations (HISA) program offers veterans with service-connected disabilities grants of up to $6,800 to make essential home modifications. These funds help cover modifications that enhance accessibility, comfort, and safety, ensuring that veterans can navigate and enjoy their homes without limitations. To apply, veterans need a prescription from their VA healthcare provider, a contractor estimate, and completed VA-10-0103 and VA-10091 forms. Approval through the VA is required before modifications begin. For more information, veterans are encouraged to contact their local VA medical center or visit the VA website.
Granting Freedom Accessibility Grant
Virginia veterans and service members who have sustained a service-connected injury may qualify for the Granting Freedom Accessibility Grant through Virginia Housing. This program provides up to $8,000 per residence or rental unit for accessibility improvements to create a safer, more functional living environment. Applications must be processed through approved agents, and veterans are responsible for reaching out to the assigned agent. This program is designed to make a positive impact on the daily lives of veterans by ensuring that their homes meet their accessibility needs.
